Video killed the written word star

So, what would you prefer - to read or watch? - The answer we hear from website content managers is - "depends on the purpose". The answer from content consumers is "watch".

In general, video is the more attractive website presentation, "easier to digest". But, most people would agree, if you are following instructions - a combination of text and video is always going to be the best solution.  Watching something being done gives belief and capability. But for the exact order of events - and each steps details etc., then text is best.

XPOR has mostly been based around text based interfaces (and graphics) - web pages / content management, all "standard" stuff.  XPOR provides on page editing, not quite WYSIWYG but close enough! But it has always had a Video aspect.  It has three basic video objects - YouTube video, Vimeo video and XPOR Video.

The first two "main stream" options enable videos to be placed on an XPOR page, streamed from the relevant video provider.  The video atom allows you to configure the controls available to the user.  This is ideal if you want your videos both on the host providers platform (for wider marketing perhaps) and on your website.  But it does raise copyright and control issues - and you have to learn their platform to know how to upload and more importantly control the video. AND you have to have yet another account with the platform that has to be remembered and managed, going forward.

There is no doubt you can benefit from wider marketing by using main stream platforms.  For example we used YouTube to display our Help Resources.  This leveraged the Help Video to give us exposure to people interested in creating these kinds of resources.  But we knew it wasn't the right thing to do because it was VERY difficult to stay on top of a rapidly changing situation (Help Resources are constantly updated).

So we moved these back into XPOR and used the third option - XPOR Video.  Consequently our Help Resources are directly and under our control, part of our overall management services, automatically generated and updated as new features come on board and old features are replaced.
