I need to get higher up in search engine results, what can I do? I've seen there are SEO courses you can take, and people you can pay to 'Optimise' your website, but I don't have the time or money for that!!

Search engine optimisation is not as scary as some people might have you think.  Seach engines are try to do two things;

1. Provide the best service to users - i.e. return the most relevant search results
2. make money!

And it is a battle between the two!  All you can do is present your information (that you want to share via search engines) in a form that search engines can "understand". Firstly, give your web pages names that align with your information.  For example if your information concerns "how to grow potatoes" DON'T give your landing page the name "home page" - give it the name "how to grow potatoes".  Whilst this won't get you to #1 on search engines it will make it easier / possible for them to undersatnd what you are trying to share.  BTW if you are dealing with a topic "how to grow potatoes" you are unlikely to beat the top ranking sites, in the same way yo re unliley to beat them in business!

You need an angle! Perhaps you could focus on a specific aspect of growing potatoes - such as difficult soil conditions such as clay.  Then give your landing page the title "how do i grow potatoes in clay soil".

The second MOST important thing is to get yoir web page URLs (address) to align with your page titles.  For example your landing page address could be mypotatoewebsite.com/how-do-i-grow-potatoes-in-clay-soil.

So now your home page accuraetly describes what you are attemtping to relay to the general public.  Next is to write the content for your page and possibly add pictures, with descriptive metadata.
