_Web Page - Object

Web Page Object

The Web Page Object is ... a web page!  Web Pages can be seen on the front of the website as ... web pages(!) and in the back of the website as conventional Objects.  Below is the Standard backend Object Editor for Web Pages;

Web Page Object Editor

Standard Properties

The Standard Object Editor form, accesed under the "Details" tab, presents the usual object details.

Publishing

We highlight here that the Web Page object type is configured as a "Publishable" Object.  They are set to be "published by default".  It is possible to create the web page and set it to "unpublished".  You can then edit the Start Publishing Date as a future date, in which case the web page will respond to the Menu Atom (see Help Resource) settings (etc.) which can be set to pay attention to the Publishing Status of the items it lists out.  Consequently it is possible to use this feature to "publish" a web page to your website at some time in the future.  You can also set an End Date for publishing - so that the web page is removed from the Menu at that date!

Language

Web page objects are capable of being "multi-language".  The addition of Languages to your XPOR Installation and website is explained in a separate Help Resource.  The Language Drop down, shown on the bottom Toolbar of the Details Editor, will display the available language options for the web page.  The Languages are added to the Website object (not the web page), which makes the option available for all of the websites web pages;

Versions

The Web Page object type is also set as "Is Versionable".

Web Page Versioning

Clicking the Copy to New version will create a new version of a web page (for moderation) such that the new version can then supercede the previous version.

Web page Version 2

When a new Version is created, the entire set of object properties is"duplicated" with the contents of the previous version included.  You can then select this second version and Edit it accordingly.

When you (or the "Moderator") are happy with the new version, it can be promoted to be the default version; the version that is presented through the website (see Versions below).

If this is filled in then this is the name that will be used on the front of the website, Site Maps and Menus. This means that you can give your web page one name for your reference, and use the Alternate Name to give it a different name that your users will see on the front of the website.

Meta Description

This is a 160 character snippet that summarises a page's content. Search engines show the Meta Description in search results mostly when the searched for phrase is contained in this description. Hence this is an important part of Search Engine Optimisation.

Meta Keywords

This is similar to the Meta Description but it can be filled with keywords instead of a full description. This is another aspect of Search Engine Optimisation.

URLs Tab

On this tab you can set the page URL and any additional URL's which will redirect to this page. Whichever URL you wish to be the main URL, just set that one to IS default in the right hand column.

Once all these things are configured you can begin editing your web page in the front end. For more information on front end editing please see the relevant help file.
